LATISSE®
Latisse® is the only FDA-approved medication for eyelash enhancement. It goes under the medical name “bimatoprost ophthalmic solution.”
Bimatoprost was originally used in glaucoma treatments, but doctors noticed a beneficial side effect: patients started having longer, lusher, and fuller eyelashes. This discovery prompted the pharmaceutical company to create a new market for cosmetic prescriptions. In December 2008, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a cosmetic formulation of bimatoprost commercially sold as Latisse®.
Almost everyone and anyone who wants to achieve those beautiful and long eyelashes can qualify for the treatment. With that being said, the candidate must:
- Be in good physical health
- Be in good mental health
- Get a prescription from a qualified professional
- Have realistic expectations
Since this is still a prescription, there are potential undesired results for anyone with not-so-ideal conditions. Our team will make sure to take your medical history to determine whether you can use the prescription.
As is the case with any treatment, there are certain things that can disqualify a person from undergoing the treatment. For example, it’s not a good idea for people with certain eye conditions or women who are pregnant or lactating.

What is a neurotoxin and how is it different than Botox?
Botox is a type of neurotoxin, just like 7up is a type of soda. We offer 3 different neurotoxins at Complete Wellness: Jeuveau, Botox, and Xeomin. All three neurotoxins are derivatives of botulinum toxin and are used to treat fine lines and wrinkles.
What’s the difference between neurotoxins (“Botox”) and fillers?
Neurotoxins and fillers are both injectable treatments that address some of the same issues including fine lines, wrinkles, skin laxity, and so on. Fillers inject a substance under the skin in order to add fullness and “fill” wrinkles and creases. Neurotoxins prevent the release of chemicals that regulate muscle contraction, which relaxes the underlying muscle and results in a softening of the features.
How do neurotoxins ("Botox") work?
Neurotoxins are a form of botulinum toxin type A that is injected into targeted treatment areas using an ultra-fine needle. It works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. It’s the repetitious contraction of facial muscles that causes expression lines and wrinkles. Once injected, the neuromodulator relaxes the muscles and decreases their movement to reduce the appearance of lines or wrinkles in the area. You will see your results gradually over 3-7 days following injection.
What areas of the face can be treated with neurotoxins?
Neurotoxin can be used to address lines and wrinkles on a number of different facial areas, including the forehead, eye area (crow’s feet), and lip lines. It may be injected to soften dimpling of the chin. Neurotoxin can also be injected into the muscles of the jaw to help alleviate pain from teeth grinding or TMJ or for a jaw slimming effect. Some of these treatment areas may be considered off-label.
What is a dermal filler?
Hormones in your body deplete as you age, leaving skin creased, sunken, and droopy. Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that replace the hyaluronic acid your body produces naturally. Treatment with fillers encourages collagen production, which is the basis for younger, firmer skin. Dermal fillers smooth wrinkles and add lost volume to the face.
We offer several formulations of dermal fillers, each of which is meant to address a specific beauty issue on various parts of the face. Each product is composed of stabilized hyaluronic acid (HA) which occurs naturally in the cells of the skin. Depending on the type of filler used, results can last from 1-2 years.
What are the benefits of fillers?
As we age, we lose volume in key areas of the face. This contributes to folds, wrinkles, hollow temples, thinning lips, sunken eyes, and an older appearance to the face. Fillers can be used to restore this volume loss, smooth out folds and wrinkles, and improve contours to achieve natural results without altering facial expression. Certain fillers can also be used to correct scars.
